New Contract Rumors: False

Between yesterday and today, many coworkers have been asking me about a "new Contract" that is available for us to view. As I have had absolutely no clue if they were true, I reached out to Brother Mark Weems, our Local 308 VP. He sent me this response almost instantly:

"We do not have an agreement on a contract with CTA. We are working tirelessly to get a great contract, one our members will be proud of... I hope we are done and able to present a contract within the next couple of weeks."

So that is as official as you can get. The rumors are indeed false. 

However, keep asking questions. Keep putting pressure on the elected union leaders. We have some that care about us—as demonstrated in Brother Mark's response—and some who despise us. Regardless, it is our job to hold them accountable.

Moreover, a Contract fight is more than just secret meetings at a mysterious "table" with lawyers and fancy lunches. The real fight is when workers like you and I organize and demonstrate our power on the job and in public. 

We cannot tolerate the constant disrespect by our employer, the mayor and the politicians. We need Full-Time Jobs For All, Two-Person Crews and clean and safe working conditions on par with what is done at the CTA headquarters!
