Misinformation Specialist?

Fred Sanford and Lamont
At the March membership meeting, fellow Steward Brother Lamont made the following accusation against me:

I have been working to pull Apprentices into my "circle" to misinform them.

He did not provide evidence about my alleged misinformation. I suspect he never will present such evidence because the very opposite exists.

Nor did he define this "circle."

Let's look at this misinformation that I must be guilty of spreading:

  1. Every Second Chance Apprentice I meet, I give them Attachment O (or N) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and make sure they know that the CTA is limited to assigning them the jobs in that Agreement.

  2. Every Second Chance Apprentice I meet is given my card. It has the union membership meeting times, the union office number, my number, the union website, my blog, the Chicago Transit Justice Coalition website and the union members' Weingarten Rights.

  3. I invite every single one of the Second Chance Apprentices to apply for other union jobs at the CTA website. For those who struggle with the technology to do it, I help them navigate through it.

  4. Every Second Chance Apprentice that reaches out to me with a problem gets a response and follow-up for their questions and cases. I help them write complaints, report to manager and grievances. I also stand with them when confronting cruel CTA managers. Even though they have limited benefits, they have a right to grieve. And yes—despite what you and Brother VP Weems insinuated—I do indeed inform them if their grievance is probably "unwinnable" to an Arbitrator. But how are we going to document problems if we don't grieve? How the are we going to organize for change without grievances?

  5. Me and other Second Chancers organized a class action grievance to push back against the CTA mismanagement that has them doing dangerous Full-Time Servicer work. If we win it, this is something that will save lives and jobs! Moreover, it was the Local 308 Vice Presidents, Brother Mark Weems and Sister Pennie, who supported and assisted us in doing the grievance. Were they misinforming the members and myself?

  6. I do the same and more for my fellow Car Repairers and other coworkers in other departments (Clerks, CA's, Trackmen, RTO's, Janitors and even Local 241 members). Moreover, I created a 35+ page New Car Repairer Welcome Packet of information that I give to each new hire I meet. See for yourself and tell me what kind of misinformation I put in there?

  7. When I meet new Flagmen, I give them the download link for my free e-book about flagging. Yeah, that's right. I wrote a whole damn book about flagging!

  8. I strategize with all coworkers who seek my help, giving them the information they need to survive. I never step ahead and always let them know what might happen for better or worse. I stand by them—and never the mismangers. Moreover, I follow up with them after the case. I actually care about these people who you allege I am misinforming.

  9. I invite correction for anything I write or say. I keep it public and make it very easy for members, stewards and officers to reach me. Some of them never give out their information and they maintain closed Facebook groups that have banned me.

This is not even the full list of the alleged misinformation of which Brother Lamont accused of me. Not a single damn union officer or steward does this kind of thing at Howard Shop. Not one!

I invite Brother Lamont and all of you that accuse me of misinforming the members, to provide evidence in the comments of this article—or wherever you see this article shared. If you can prove I misinformed anyone, then I will apologize and correct for any such occurrence.

I also invite coworkers who I have allegedly misinformed or informed to honestly express their opinion of my service in the comments.

  1. Eric was essential in the take down of Douge Sneed the coordinator of Howard Red Line that thought he was untouchable because he was under the umbrella protection of the bosses . Well he got "touched" locked up and fired. I was on the team that took him down. I regret nothing. The bosses are now very scared because it just took 4 to take down a corrupt boss. Imagine what 6 or 10 can do. It's a election year they are very nervous.
