Just Quit!

It’s time for you ATU members in Chicago to quit!

Quit telling me I need to change the way I express myself so you can feel comfortable associating with me.

I ain’t no politician or slick feckless phony union steward. I am just a piece of trash trying to be useful to my Creator.

I don’t need supporters, fans, followers or flatterers. I do what I do for the sake of doing what is RIGHT!

To me, your admonitions just sound like more lame excuses to do nothing as our employer and their ATU friends sell us out!

To me, some of you want me to be a wimpy man so you won’t feel guilty putting me in office. Then you can do nothing but blame me for the inevitable failure to come because you refuse to take responsibility as a member of your union.

I hear it every day:

“You gonna run for union office?”

I always respond:

“You gonna nominate me?”

And after I explain how it works, they make all kinds of excuses to not do it.

You have the nerve to ask me to sacrifice my good job and pension to be a union officer, but won’t sacrifice a few hours in three years to nominate me? You fear these boss-loving, politician-worshiping sellouts and your "reputation" writing my name on a stupid piece of paper.

Just quit already!

Quit waiting for elections.

Quit making excuses to not attend membership meetings.

Quit making excuses not to organize your workplace.

Quit making excuses to not unite against mismanagers.

Quit making excuses not to protest and condemn our terrible working conditions.

If you want positive change, YOU need to be a part of that change. Not burden some other dude that will inevitably disappoint you.

It’s time to quit being wimps and start being warriors!
