The CTA Is Stealing Our Wages Again!
Their immediate response was as follows:
- Sister Pennie told me to "have any member that contact you do their calculations I have discovered
that they are being paid the correct hourly rate but there check
stubs shows something different."
- Brother Mark wrote that I should "tell each member to call their [Administrative] Manager with the pay discrepancy and follow up with a grievance documenting what they were paid and what they should have been paid and the number of hours they were paid incorrectly."
The CTA mismanagement has basically established precedent that they can just make up numbers and ignore the Collective Bargaining Agreement—in Truth or not. Notice how they are being aggressive about telling us that we are appreciated. Does this kind of treatment make you feel appreciated?
So we have to grieve this crap. And that means we must take some time as individuals to do so. I will help you with this step-by-step.

- This is not the fault of the Clerks. Please understand they are not responsible for this mess. They are in our union and being screwed over just the same.
- Find your rate according to salary chart. Your rate—assuming it is at 100% progression—is under the 7/1/2023 column.
- If they are in the office, notify the Administrative Manager that you are being paid the wrong rate. Tell them what the correct rate should be right away. Do not inform them you will submit a grievance. That is none of their business and it is illegal for them to harass or retaliate against you about your right to grieve! - Download and print the Local 308 Grievance Form (not the Complaint Form!) from this link: https://www.scribd.com/document/570305266/Local-308-Grievance-Form
- Fill out the form. For "Check one" choose "Other."
- Write the following: On payslip [DATES] I was paid at [RATE ON PAYSLIP] for [HOURS ON PAYSLIP]. I should have been paid for my progression according to [RATE ON CHART BELOW] for [HOURS ON PAYSLIP]. I wish for the CTA to immediately pay the difference according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, to pay me correctly from this day forward according to the CBA, any other unpaid wages and be made whole.
- Drop the grievance off at the union office at 11204 S. Western. That's right. In person. Don't give it to anyone except the office manager or vice presidents. Make sure you get a "grievance number" and copy of it.
