Is The RHCT Going Up?
There are some rumors going around that the Retiree Health Care Trust (RHCT) deduction is going back up from the current 1% (Illinois House Bill 1428). I confirmed with ATU Local 308 Vice President, Brother Mark Weems, that it is not.
So fear not, for now.
In the meantime, I encourage all CTA coworkers to learn about the RHCT. It is highly controversial and I still question the true motivations behind its establishment and its effectiveness.
The most outrageous insult is that part-time workers pay into it—and they will have almost no access to it in their lifetime or career.
In my opinion, the solution to this problem is to replace all part-time jobs with Full-Time jobs for all CTA workers. If you want to organize and fight for it, sign up on this form.
Read the summary history and details of the RHCT at the CTARetirement.org website. Please note that the website has not been updated with the 1% deduction. It still reads at 3%. Also, there is website about a RHCT class action lawsuit limited to workers who retired before 2007. Awhile back I wrote an article about the RHCT and Pension funding.
