Shop Worker Grievance: Stop The Force!

Forcing Us To Pick is Union Busting

UPDATE (Nov. 13, 2024): Getting no response from the Nov. 4, 2024 grievance (below), I submitted a new Class Action Grievance with Workplace Complaint regarding the Pick (the Complaint is a contingency in case our grievance is rejected due to some convenient technicality). If carried through it will delay the Pick (for Rail Car Repairers). This is annoying to all of us. However, year after year, CTA mismanagement has added more work, cut more jobs and forced more positions. They have no respect for us. We need to put our foot down. I have included digital copies of the Nov. 13, 2024 grievance and complaint below.

For far too long, CTA mismanagement has manipulated and abused our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) to squeeze more work out of a smaller workforce and weaken our seniority picking rights. Basically, they want to make us an at-will workforce.

This is most evident in the "Rail Leader" and "Rail Technician" jobs in the Rail Car Repairer Excel Agreement (Attachment O in the CBA). The Rail Car Repairers who have earned these qualifications are not paid enough, not recruited sufficiently and are continuously "forced" to pick the jobs. This is unsafe, demoralizing and is another nail in the coffin of our dying union.

As the Local 308 Executive Board Member elected by CTA workers who clean and repair the trains, it is my duty to help members fight for what they want.

Below is one of many "Class Action" grievances submitted by us. This one in particular is the first of a campaign I am attempting to organize to stop the forcing. Winning the battle for Rail Leaders and Rail Technicians will prepare us for the wider war against CTA mismanagement's union-busting plans.
