Yawn…Back to Springfield?

Real unions fight the boss, not help him
This is really beginning to look ridiculous.

Multiple news articles—and piles of evidence in grievances and complaints from workers—proves that the failure of the Chicago Transit Authority to meet the moment of its mandate is based in gross mismanagement.

Why are we blowing union resources groveling for money that our employer should be lobbying for at their own expense?

Our problems—as CTA workers—are terrible working conditions, deferred maintenance, union-busting, chronic layoffs, abuse, neglect, multi-tiered wages, one-person train operation, no paid sick leave and more.

It is because of these abuses that CTA service sucks and riders are fleeing.

These are the things we should be "lobbying" about in the streets of Chicago—where we work and live. We should be building alliances with riders and other real, fighting unions in preparation for historic mass action.

If you think another "Lobby Day" in Springfield is what we need, go for it. Surely, the mismanagement appreciates it and will let you have a punishment-free day off without pay.

But if you think for one second that they are gonna share with us some of that money and stop violating our Contract, you will be sorely disappointed.

We are locked in an abusive relationship. We are beat down when we speak up. We are told to be afraid if we don't accept the crumbs. Now we are told to go get money for the abuser or they will cast us into the street.

Wake up y'all.
