Respect My Coworkers Rights
Recently I was helping a clerk with issues regarding working conditions and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. As these workers are often confined to an office and have no relief, we could not talk in the break-room.
A mismanager was very upset to see me and began a slightly unlawful interrogation of why I was there. I explained I am a union steward and was assisting the clerk with Contract issues.
Seeking to diffuse his anxiety—and counter potential retaliation—I asked respectfully:
“What would you like me to do?”
He was basically walked away and told me to leave when I am done with my business. No big deal.
You CTA mismanagers are getting wise to the fact that you cannot violate my coworkers rights—nor interfere with my duties as a steward.
Here are the ground rules for our "relationship": I will respect you. You will respect me (and the workers). However, if you push me, I will not push back. I will pull you—and unlike those other union "partners" you have worked with for so many years—it won't be for a hug.
