Layoffs? Let's Talk About It
Did you want to know about the "layoff"? It's something everyone is talking about. Fear and anxiety is growing. In many ways, this fear is being used to keep us silent about the terrible working conditions. One way to properly handle fear and anxiety, is to know the facts.
Check the Contract. Specifically, Article 12.8:
As of the 2025 Tentative Agreement, the layoff date was shortened:
Once the layoffs begin, so will the "bumping" of jobs. That is explained in Article 12.8A:
The first to go will be Part-Time and Full-Time Temporary (including Second Chancers). See Paragraphs 11 and 20 of Attachment M, Paragraphs 12 & 13 in Attachment N and Paragraph 10 in Attachment O:No matter how it happens, it will hurt all of us—even those who are spared. All of our lives and safety will be put in jeopardy. Real unions fight for all members. So if some are hit, we got to organize action to cover all.
Some ask me my opinion if there will be layoffs. My answer is NO. But there will be plenty of fear in order to make us accept terrible concessions that will further erode our rights and unions.
