Union Dues Going Up: What's Going On?

You may have seen it posted at your work location or online. The union dues are going up. They are already high. Many members feel they do not get their money's worth. Well—with almost half going to King Costa and his merry band of International Vice Presidents—we have very little.

I found the letter to be poorly-written (I suggest our Secretary-Treasurer run it by the CTA lawyer first). It is also poorly-timed. Every penny makes a huge difference to CSA, FTT and Second Chance workers. Could we have discussed this after the funding issue was resolved?

Regardless, I highly recommend you read Section 28 of the Local 308 bylaws to understand the basics.

Fellow union steward, Brother Christopher Campisi, made this wonderful cartoon of a frustrated worker looking at the letter on a bulletin board. It cleverly editorializes and clarifies what the dues increase adds up to financially.

The context is within the Shop Worker crafts, but it can easily be translated for any one of our Local 308 classifications. Check it out!
