Class Action Grievance: Tool Confiscation while IOD
UPDATE (12/1/2025): VP Mark Weems led the vote against this grievance. However, he conceded that members should get paid for being forced to turn in their tools—and suggested I submit a new one focused on that part only. He and President Pennie argued that if we make the CTA stop calling IOD workers in to turn in their tools, they will be able to stop them from picking. I rebutted that picking a schedule cannot be compared to a worker—who still may be injured—walking across a hazard-filled shop floor, pulling out a heavy toolbox and handling tools. She and her loyalists shouted me down. I was enraged at the disrespect of members who are hurt and could be injured more. Please attend the December 9, 2025 membership meeting and override this terrible act against us by our own highly-compensated elected leaders!
The CTA mismanagement is always finding ways to torture workers who are in Area 605 or "Injured on Duty" status.
They are making us show up at work to turn in tools and equipment. This makes no sense and does nothing but set the worker up to get hurt or scammed.
There is NOTHING in the Contract that permits them to terrorize us this way!
It's bad enough they fight our doctors. Now they want their stuff and we haven't even been fired or quit!
Today, I submitted the following grievance to stop the practice—and make sure those who cooperate get paid. Read it below:
