Vacations and Holidays for Local 308 Members

Understand Vacations and Holidays at the CTA
Holidays and Vacations information from the Contract are tricky. Reading and understanding how it works takes effort. However, it's worth it. This article focuses on vacations and holidays for Full-Time Permanent (FTP) employees only.

I will not bother describing the insulting "unpaid" vacation that CSA and Flagmen can pick. That is another disgusting thing we can deal with in another article (as well as impeach the traitors who sign off on such a scam).

Important facts to know:

  1. Article 11.1: Your vacation is calculated using a scam called "Vacation Plan Year." So your full year as FTP does not count! The clock starts from June 1st to May 31st.
  2. Article 11.12: You cannot break up your vacation weeks. Only after 10 years (with 4 weeks of vacation) can you break up two weeks into individual "Vacation Random Days" (VRD).
  3. Article 11.4: To receive the full benefit for blocks of vacation weeks, you must work a minimum of 200 days in the preceding year. If you were on leave, that can put a serious dent in your vacation allowance.
  4. Although Vacations are covered in one Contract article. Holidays are slightly different between ATU Local 241 (Article 9) and ATU Local 308 (Article 10). I have included BOTH in the window below.
