Local 308 Election Corruption

CTA Customer Assistants (CSA and CSR) out of 95th, 63rd/Ashland and Midway should know that their Assistant Executive Board member is now working in maintenance.

As per current ambiguous interpretation of Local 308 bylaws, Brother Tyrone Edwards should be replaced in a new, unexpired term election because he is now employed by the CTA as a Rail Janitor.

So someone else, who is currently a Customer Assistant, should have the chance to represent their department. Right?

This is the standard practice as demonstrated by recent resignation of Sister Willette Lucas—who served as the West Section Customer Assistants Executive Board Member. She was replaced by CTA mismanagement's darling pervert, Brother Bryan Spencer, in an unexpired term nomination because she was forced to pick the South Section.

President Pennie was out of order by presiding over such an election.

Let us examine Section 6(b) of the Local 308 bylaws:

Read carefully the words

The word "resigns" does not specify if the officer is resigning from their Local 308 bargained for CTA job to accept a Local 308 bargained for CTA job in another department or if it means resigning from their Local 308 elected position.

Therefore, Brother Tyrone can finish out his term if he does not choose to resign his position.

So, in all Truth, Sister Willette should never have been removed from office. She did not resign according to my communications with her.

So the question should be asked: Why isn't Brother Tyrone being replaced like Sister Willette? And why did the Executive Board—me included—not hold President Pennie accountable for this illegal conduct?

I can answer for myself: Because I presumed it was legal. That is, until I examine the bylaws more closely.

We can only hope that our president made a mistake. Surely, the trait of a good leader is to admit fault.

However, leadership at Local 308 is not about honor or service. It is about control and being a "boss." So they play fast-and-loose with our bylaws.

This kind of corruption needs to stop. However, as long as members allow the corrupt practices to continue, it will not stop.
