Pension Power Committee

A new initiative to help members organize and protect our pension for all CTA workers

Today was the first of a monthly meeting of the Pension Power Committee (PPC). This is a proposed committee outlined in my 3-Year-Plan to reform ATU Local 308 should the members elect me to be the next president for ATU Local 308.

It is effectively unofficial because I am not yet president and have no such privileges to form a committee in the name of Local 308. However that may change on November 17th.

I promoted our first meeting through my Virtual Union Hall email list and on Facebook. Those present approved the name and mission of the the PPC.

Here is the Mission we agreed on:

The PPC will organize members to fight for a pension with higher funding, lower age requirements, lower penalties and more higher-pay full-time permanent jobs to increase participation.

Our goals are broad and still need more refinement.

  • Elected Retired Member Advisory
    • Active members allowed
    • No limit to number of persons on committee

  • Pension COLA Raise Action Plan
    • Goal: Illinois law must be changed to accommodate it

  • Retiree-Rookie Mentor Program

We concluded our meeting with a short report about the Pension from ATU member and CTA bus operator Sister Nicole Williams. Please register for my Virtual Union Hall email list so you can access the recording and summary from our meeting. Please register for our next meeting on October 18, 2026 at 11:30 pm. All ATU members are welcome—especially retirees! Updates will be posted in this article.
