Do You Need a Union Rep EEO Interviews?

Always get union representation
Short answer: Absolutely yes.

I have repeatedly been told by other union officials that it is not necessary. They strangely claim that it does not involve disciplinary action. Therefore, it's not necessary. In all cases—especially when the interview is about some form of sexual harassment—you need a witness and an advocate.

Yes, the interaction may be limited since it is not technically an interview regarding punishment. However, it can lead to it.

A CTA EEO meeting is not the EEOC. It's an in-house CTA organization. They will almost always be biased toward the management. When it comes down to punishment, they give a recommendation. However, if you add it up, that is just another level of lower management.

Why our union presidents discourage it is beyond my comprehension.

So whenever you have an EEO meeting, immediately request union representation
