Campaign 2023: The Second Chance Program
I say personal, because this is an issue I take very, very personally. Also, it is not necessarily popular among most of my coworkers.
The workers in the Second Chance Program are often misjudged as unworthy of attention because most of them did time in jail or prison.
The exposé includes mass media, town halls, church visits and one-on-one contact. This program exploits some of the most vulnerable human beings in our society (one of many poverty-promoting programs at the CTA).
This bullshxt scam for "justice-involved residents" should be called a "Second Class" program!
It is immoral, unlawful and unsustainable. It is antithetical to what makes our labor union a viable organization. Even its description as an "Apprentice" program is packed with deception. There is no progression nor journeyman for these poor, so-called "Apprentices" that are abused.
The union signatories of it—Ken Franklin (Local 308) and Keith Hill (Local 241)—should be expelled from membership in the Amalgamated Transit Union for such a treasonous act! By the way, Brother Ken Franklin is running for president again. I am proud to be a voice of opposition to him—and a supporter of his opponent, Sister Pennie McCoach.
If elected next month, my intentions are to seek Local 241 Maintenance Business Agent Marquel Williams and the next Local 308 President for support. If they do not support the effort, too bad for them.
