Publicity Parade of Shame

CTA managers have paid sick leave benefits that union workers lack
I recently made a series of photo illustrations on LinkedIn from the CTA Pride Parade publicity efforts to show the ugly Truth about why CTA service is failing the people of Chicago: It is the working conditions of the employees.

Me and my union coworkers get punished when we call off sick. While all the managers get generous Paid Sick Leave benefits, we get none! This fact is dictated in CTA Administrative Procedures 1009 and 1010 (available to the public through the CTA's Freedom of Information Act department).

They somehow convinced our union presidents to sign a secret waiver to deny us this human right—a right that is codified in City of Chicago Municipal Code 6-130. It is also codified in Cook County and State of Illinois law!

Every month I must go over cases for terminations of CTA workers who committed no crimes against the CTA or riders except for getting sick—or caring for a sick family member.

Some of the persons in the above photo were behind the my suspension and loss of pay for protesting about it on my off-day! Make no mistake: I am fully aware that my employer—and their loyal agents in the ATU Local 308 office—despise me for exposing this barbarity.

Regarding the egregious violation of our human rights, our union president, Sister Pennie McCoach says I "don't know what the f*** you are talking about" and union vice president, Brother Mark Weems, says I am a "Lying clown." Because of my insistence for exposing their treason, he also vowed to make sure I will be thrown out of office and never win the office of union president.

What is in the hearts of union misleaders and CTA mismanagers who will try to fire and impeach a union representative who cares about CTA workers' human rights?

We suffer alot in our daily duties. We don't deserve to be punished for getting sick!
